Last Friday June 2, to cap another busy week for Mayor Erwin Caralian, a momentous Memorandum of Understanding signing was made among the LGU Gumaca, Mega Pacific Vision and Rising Multi Discovery Sdn Bhd of Malaysia.  This is regarding the conduct of a comprehensive study of a 300-hectare reclamation project of Gumaca with 9-km expressway.  Mayor Erwin assured that this project is definitely to the advantage of the community especially the fisher folks and that this is aligned to his vision of Gumaca being a Green City.

Last May 30-31, DSWD’s Kalahi CIDSS conducted the Inter-Barangay Forum and Criteria Workshop Setting.  This was participated by all the 59 barangays of Gumaca including their barangay captains and volunteers.  This is done help the barangays set their criteria to rank their proposed projects which will be funded through Kalahi.

MIAC members mostly department heads of the LGU joined in the workshop to help the barangays determine the criteria.  MPDC, MAO, MSWDO, MENRO and MHO each presented their PPAs so the barangays would know the priority projects to avoid duplication from each of their project proposals.

Live Pure Forum for Parents

  • Thursday, 01 June 2017

Last March just before the school year ended, the GNHS PTA BOD spearheaded the conduct of the Live Pure Forum to create awareness among our young students the value of chastity and to be responsible of their actions.

Today (May 24), it is the parents' turn to be given the same seminar where they will also learn about how to help their children cope up with the changes happening in their young lives.

Vice Mayor Elchor Caralian lauded this particular effort of the school and its PTA BOD, he being the prime author of the Parental Code Ordinance.

Just before summer ends, it has become LGU Gumaca’s tradition to conduct Operation Tuli for the youths of today in their passage of rites towards manhood.  And so as early as 6:00 in the morning, young boys together with their parents trooped the municipal hall to avail of the libreng tuli.  Vice Mayor Elchor, himself a medical doctor, together with doctors from MCU College of Medicine (his  Alma Mater), 201st IB, 21D PA, 85th IB, Reserve Officers Legion, Philippine Academy of Physicians-Quezon and our MHO Dr. Tetet Soriano took turns in the operation which at the end of the day numbered to about 175.  MHO nurses and midwives and the Vice Mayor staff provided other needed assistance.

In partnership with the MFPTA, a dental mission was likewise conducted with dentists also commissioned by VM Doc Elchor.

Mayor Erwin, seeing the boys untidy with their long hairs, instantly called on Brgy. Captain Alvin Rico and 2 other barbers to offer free haircut while clients wait for their turn in the operating table.  Even municipal employees were also able to avail of the free haircut.

Definitely, they are Gumaca's Pride.  It takes a lot of hard work and physical and mental conditioning especially in a contact sport like Wushu.  Their journey began in the municipal level to provincial and regional before climbing up the national games.  Thus, being in the Palarong Pambansa is neither no mean feat nor a streak of luck.

Last April, before they leave for Antique, Mark Ervin Chong and Roi Fuenzalida, gave Mayor Erwin and Vice Mayor Elchor courtesy visits in their respective offices.  Aside from prayers and wishes of good luck, they were promised of financial support in their quest for fame and glory.  And so today (May 22) right after our Flag Ceremony, Mark Ervin and Roi who came with their coach Sir Ramir, finally got their checks handed by Vice Mayor Elchor.  Posterity shots were taken at the Office of the Mayor and at SB Session Hall to make the day truly memorable.

  • Wednesday, 31 May 2017

Last May 18, DSWD's Unified Regional Project Management Team led by RD Leticia Diokno, no less, visited Gumaca to validate on their various project implementations notably Brgy. Hagakhakin's Artificial Coral Reef Kalahi project and other sustainable livelihood projects downloaded to the municipality. They were joined by Mayor Erwin Caralian as they roam aroundamidst his busy schedules.

The activity was facilitated by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office (PDRRMO) and participated at the start by 40 participants from Kalasag’s Emergency Response Team, the Bureau of Fire Protection, Bantay Dagat, Salome Porters Association, Kabalikat Civicom and other community volunteer responders.

Day 1 of the training is a review of First Aid, Basic Life Support and High Angle Rescue. This is so they will be more aware on how to find hazards, and at the same time learn the mechanisms on personal safety and survival and basic lifesaving. This was also the time when participants get to decide whether to continue with the training or not. Expectedly, as WASAR is highly-charged and very demanding physically and mentally and which needs full and undivided attention, there were a few who opted to back out and forego their slots.

On Days 2 to 5, the participants were taught on the proper way of water entry, the types of swimming, lifesaving, group survival, water evolution and even knot tying. In pursuit to instill the objective of the activity, a briefing and orientation on water safety and lifesaving was repeatedly conducted before any actual staging of the simulations during the training. And because they were camped in all of those 5 days, the training included various simulations even during the wee hours of the night when nobody expected them to happen.

Twice over, the Gumaca National High School once again played host to the district-wide kick-off ceremony for this year’s Brigada Eskwela.  A motorcade was held around town coinciding with the celebration of Gumaca’s Araña’t Baluarte Festival where guests and visitors fortunately were able to experience our brand of festivity.

It became a conglomeration of the who’s who in the community.  DEpEd was ably represented by SDS Merthel Evardome, GNHS Principal IV Alex Blazo together with the other PSDS’s, school heads and teachers from the fourth district.  The Local Government Unit, on the other hand, had a powerhouse comprising of Congw. Helen Tan, Board Members Raquel Mendoza and Thirdy Escano, Mayor Erwin Caralian, Vice Mayor Elchor Caralian, Councilor Marilou Menodoza and Brgy. Captain Ramon Reynante Castillo.  Other stakeholders included the Parents-Teachers Association led by the President of the Quezon Federation.  All of them professing their support and commitment to provide the most conducive learning environment for the students.

The occasion also saw the launching of Sir Zaldy Bueno’s Project Padyak which aims to lend initially 100 bicycles to students dropping out from school due to fare expense problems.  Gathering substantial support, the drive now has about 139 donated bicycles and counting ready to be deployed to qualified beneficiaries.  Kudos also to Sir Sherwin, Ma’am Melissa, Ma’am Lorna and Ma’am Imelda who are part of the team.
