At 3:00pm this afternoon, the Araña’t Baluarte Festival 2017 formally opens to the public with the judging of the Baluartes and the Pinakamasarap na Yubak. In a program hosted by Ivan H. Lee and orchestrated and choreographed by Ma’am Annette B. Diamante, the opening salvo proved to be a preview of another successful run of Gumaca’s famed festivity.
Mayor Erwin Caralian delivered an inspiring message emphasizing that love, unity, cooperation, thanksgiving and a strong support system are the ingredients for the continuous success being enjoyed by the festival. He went on to thank the Tourism Council, the donors/sponsors, the LGU and most especially the barangay officials for truly exceeding everyone’s expectations. Mayor Erwin also thanked the judges coming from different places for taking time out from their busy schedules to take a look at what we have to offer. Likewise to the GNHS FDT and Drum & Lyre Band for providing beautiful intermission numbers showcasing Gumaca’s rich heritage through folk dances and music and to the LGU Chorale for singing the doxology and the national anthem.
Vice Mayor Elchor Caralian and his Sangguniang Bayan members also attended the opening program and they too joined the judges while roaming around to see for themselves the baluartes and taste the yubak.
Later, certificates were awarded to the board of judges that included Provincial Tourism Officer Jun Bay by Piter Otordos, SB Members Marilou Mendoza and Prescilla Gina D. Magbuhos while Mayor Erwin Caralian and Admin Elmo looked on.
