President Rodrigo Duterte has declared January of every year as “National Bible Month” in recognition of the “religious nature of the Filipino people and the elevating influence of religion in human society.” This was issued under Proclamation No. 124 dated January. 5, also set every last week of January as “National Bible Week.”
Here in Gumaca, Mayor Erwin Caralian recognizing the importance and significance of the Holy Bible as the divine inspiration has already institutionalized and set the Bible Week celebration every year through a Municipal Resolution/Ordinance creating a Bible Committee tasked to oversee all preparations.
And so this year, starting last January 20, the Slogan and Poster Making Contests were held at the Municipal Gymnasium, the winners of which would highlight and be paraded during the official launch of the celebration the following Monday, January 23. True enough, participants from all sectors once again filled the streets carrying their placards bearing bible verses they hope to live-by. A program befitting the occasion had Mayor Erwin Caralian delivering his words of inspiration followed by the reading of the bible verses of the different organizations.
Other activities included Bible Drill and Bible Quiz with all the schools in the municipality giving each other stiff yet friendly competitions but more importantly increasing the knowledge of our students about the words of God and its application to daily lives. Likewise, Bible distribution in partnership with the Gideon International was done in various hospitals to ease and give them comforts. The Word Bible Concert became the final salvo, this time, the musicality of the performers were the ones tested and which glorifies our dear Creator.
