Last Friday June 2, to cap another busy week for Mayor Erwin Caralian, a momentous Memorandum of Understanding signing was made among the LGU Gumaca, Mega Pacific Vision and Rising Multi Discovery Sdn Bhd of Malaysia.  This is regarding the conduct of a comprehensive study of a 300-hectare reclamation project of Gumaca with 9-km expressway.  Mayor Erwin assured that this project is definitely to the advantage of the community especially the fisher folks and that this is aligned to his vision of Gumaca being a Green City.

Finally, Kalasag Gumaca MDRRMO now has its new home as the Emergency Operations Center opens its door to the public.  Yesterday, June 6, its blessing was done with Mayor Erwin Caralian and LGUs department heads witnessing the rites.

Manned by 3 MDRRMOs, 1 Assistant, 12 ERTs in partnership with the PNP & BFP and other volunteer groups, Gumaca’s Response Unit is now ready and able 24x7.

Every year, our Municipal Agriculture Office thru its mango research project conducts a Mango Harvest Festival participated by the members of the Gumaca Mango Growers Association.  Yesterday, June 6, they held one in Brgy. Hagakhakin.  Today, the harvesting was done in Brgy. Progreso. In the next few days, more harvests in both barangays are scheduled to be completed and so expect more mangoes to be sold in our market and at the LGU’s Negosyo Center.

As in the previous years, the mango growers employ the technology shared and taught by our agriculture extension workers Maria & Elsie.  The produce are just as delectable and sweet or even better than those found in Guimaras and Zambales.  And by the way, they were also taught how to make mango puree, juice and jam to expand their market.

Who knows, soon, Gumaca can also become a mango capital in Quezon and in the entire Philippines!  To our mango growers and farmers, may you continue to utilize the new techniques given to you by our researchers.
